IPL Photorejuvenation or photo facial, as it is commonly called, is a noninvasive procedure that uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to erase signs of aging from the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and other areas. It is an in office procedure personally performed by our certified laser technician. A treatment program typically includes three to six sessions of about thirty minutes, each performed at three week intervals.
IPL Photorejuvenation has the unique capability of treating skin problems during each treatment session. Among these are facial and leg veins, fine lines, rosacea, pigment discoloration, (such as malasma, age and sun spots), uneven skin color, redness of the neck, enlarged pores, loss of collagen and elasticity, and general sun damage. IPL can also treat acne and acne scars. IPL also treats the chest and arms.
In addition to treating multiple symptoms and locations during each session, IPL’s gentle, non-evasive and safe procedures result in “No Down Time”. You can see a change in the complexion and skin texture at the completion of each treatment. With the use of sun blocks, you can return to normal activities.
Before treatment, a cool gel is applied to area to be treated. You will be provided with goggles to wear shielding the bright light projected from the IPL handpiece. During the treatment, the smooth glass surface of the IPL hand piece is gently applied to your skin, delivering pulses of light to the treated area. IPL treatments are usually considered painless, however an aesthetic cream can be administered if the procedure becomes uncomfortable. After the procedure, redness or blotchiness may be present on the treated area lasting from a few hours to several days. You will witness dramatic positive results at the end of each treatment. Results are long lasting.
A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, transparent handpiece gently placed over the skin. Filters in the handpiece change the wavelength range allowing it to be optimized for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the blood when treating vascular lesions or the melanin when treating pigmented lesions targeting them. The body’s natural process then sloughs away the targeted tissue giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.
