HAIR REMOVAL

Permanent hair removal can be achieved by laser technology. Hair removal is commonly done on the upper lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, bikini area, thighs, face, neck, arms, legs, hands and toes.

Our highly trained laser specialist performs hair removal by disabling hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of treatment. Several treatments are necessary since other hairs enter their growth cycles at different times. Laser hair removal works best on pale skin and dark coarse hair, or Skin Types I-III. It will not target hair that does not have a pigment, including blonde or grey hair, and electrolysis must be used for removal. Learn more about electrolysis below.

The hair should be shaven 1 to 3 days prior to treatment. Shaving prior to the treatment allows the laser to target hair below the surface of the skin and not above. After treatment is complete, you will experience shedding of all treated hair within 2 to 5 weeks. Shedding starts about one and a half weeks after treatment and can last up to 3 weeks. Exfoliating and/or scrubbing the treated area in the shower with a loofah can expedite this process.

Electrolysis

During Electrolysis, a very fine probe or needle (disposable) is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle along side the hair shaft. A small amount of electrical current is then applied to destroy the bulb or root of the hair. Treatment sessions can range from 15 to 30 minutes. Charleston Aesthetics has a certified electrologist on staff to perform this procedure. With the exception of inside the nose and ears or from a mole, hair can be removed from almost any location on the body.
