Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, also known as “double chin." The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

We will customize your treatments based on the amount of submental fullness you have and your treatment goals. Most clients need two to four sessions of Kybella injections, typically 6 to 8 weeks apart. Each session lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. At these appointments, you will receive a series of injections into the fat under your chin. Once the aesthetic goal is achieved, re-treatment is not expected.

 

For most clients, downtime was minimal and occurred mostly after the first treatment session. You may experience some side effects with Kybella, as with other injectable treatments. The most common are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. We may apply ice/cold packs or topical and/or injectable local anesthesia to the treatment area to make you more comfortable. After treatment, apply ice or a cold pack to the treatment area for 10 to 15 minutes, as needed.
